Encouraging Young Readers!

Our juvenile non-fiction section has had some huge improvements over the last year, thanks to a grant from Monogram Foods Loves Kids Foundation and a donation from Four County Co-Op!

We have been able to fully update and add to our beginning reader section, and we are about 60% complete with updating our juvenile and teen non-fiction! Almost 1,000 books have already been updated.

It’s been a large undertaking, including a lot of time, work, and most important of all, funding. Our median age of materials in these sections had been 30 years old, meaning the majority of books were outdated and in disrepair.

Our goal is to finish up the remaining 40% during 2023, bringing our median age of books in this section to less than 10 years old! This means local children will have up-to-date, good condition, materials in a variety of subjects matters.

We’ve seen an increase in circulation of these more current materials, and have heard a lot of positive feedback from children and parents. We know having a well curated selection of non-fiction books available to the children of our community will help kids stay interested in reading and learning. We are so thankful to Monogram Foods and Four County Co-Op for this wonderful opportunity for residents of Edgerton/Chandler/Leota and all the other areas that frequent Edgerton Public Library!
